the system you refer to in Schenectady was what they called a wire line and cable system with the boxes propelled by the action of the cord to the line and cable. The cash carrier is a pneumatic tube system propelled by vacuum or pressure. The original Montgomery Ward's used this system extrensively until approx. 1964. I am involved in this principle for transporting blood and samples in hospitals by controlling the speed of the carriers so there is no breakdown during the transport.
